Gaby (Florida)

“When I was in high school, I started having really weird dreams and vivid images I just couldn’t piece together. After many years of sifting through it all, I realized they weren’t dreams, they were memories.  Memories of something horrible that happened to me as a child while living in Honduras – my nanny had sexually abused me.  I fell into a deep depression for years and once, I even attempted suicide. Sometimes, I would pray something bad happened so the feelings and images would stop.  I felt like it was my fault, I couldn’t take it anymore.  So I decided to enter into a therapy program, free to students at my college. My therapist was the first I’ve ever told my story to and made me face it all until I was ready to move on. She saved my life. Because of her, I’ve let it all go and today, I am free.  Now,  I am pursuing a career advocating for victims of sexual abuse.”
